Cathy HoweBiography

Cathy Howe is an independent consultant and PhD researcher at Imperial College London. She founded the UK Knowledge Mobilisation Forum in 2013. She worked as a Manager in the National Health Service for 15 years, specialising in quality improvement and evidence translation since 2004. Prior to her most recent role as Patient Safety Programme Director at an Academic Health Science Network she held an NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Fellowship and worked as a Programme Lead at the NIHR Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research & Care (CLAHRC) Northwest London. She has managed corporate and clinical services in England and in Wales.   Before joining the NHS Cathy worked in the voluntary and private sectors. She has qualifications in manufacturing sciences, psychology and health care management. Her PhD research is developing an evidence-based psychometric tool to support healthcare organisations to improve their ‘absorptive capacity’ so they can more effectively identify and exploit relevant knowledge for the benefit of the organisation.

I want the services we provide and receive to be the best they can be. I saw how useful it was for people working in knowledge mobilisation in different sectors to come together at the Canadian Knowledge Mobilisation Forum. Many people in different sectors struggle with the same issues and challenges. I believe that we can be ‘better together’. I founded the UK KMb Forum to put that idea into action.

Knowledge Mobilisation: The Musical

On Monday night Cathy will bring you the world premiere performance of ‘Knowledge Mobilisation: The Musical!’ featuring Norman, based on her research during 2013/14 as a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Knowledge Mobilisation Fellow studying systems and networks for knowledge mobilisation in a foundation hospital in London. Thankfully, she’ll be supported in this endeavour by Pidwigeon, professional musicians aka Kevin Wilkins, Suzanne Hunton and Ella-Joy Hunton.
